Fire Full-Time Firefighter/EMT

Job Description

The Georgetown Fire Department is accepting applications for the full-time position of Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician (FF/EMT).

Our department is evolving and growing with the needs of the community and the fire service. We are seeking a confident, self-motivated, flexible and professional individual who works well with others with the desire to help those in need and provide outstanding service to the citizens of Georgetown and surrounding communities. Our organization provides an all-hazards emergency services which includes a licensed transporting BLS ambulance service to a population of approximately 8,700 residents throughout a 12.9 square-mile primary response area. Combined Fire/EMS responses exceed 1,400 calls for service annually.

Minimum Education, Qualifications, Experience and Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle driver’s license
  • Produce course certificate for NIMS IS 700, 100, 200 upon employment start date
  • Massachusetts/NREMT EMT-B Certification required within 3 months of employment start date
  • ProBoard Certification as Firefighter I/II required within 12 months of employment start date (will consider relevant years of experience as substitute)
  • Must pass an extensive criminal background investigation including CORI
  • Must pass NFPA 1582 Physical and Drug Screening
  • Must pass Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
  • Must be drug/cannabis and tobacco products free
  • Ability to perform duties of job description and as assigned

Additional consideration given for:

  • Three (3) years’ experience as FF/EMT working in a fire department setting with transporting ambulance services (highly advantageous)
  • Associates degree or higher in Fire Science, Criminal Justice or Business Administration
  • ProBoard Credentials in Hazardous Materials: Operations Level Responder, Fire Prevention (Inspector), Instructor, Fire Officer, or Fire Investigator

Upon appointment, qualified candidates will be assigned to an initial work schedule of 40 hours per week.  Orientation work schedule will be 8-hour weekdays eventually moving to a 24-8-8 shift schedule. Starting rate is $27.50/hour.  Additional compensation is available in the form of holiday pay, etc. for qualified candidates in accordance with the town’s employee handbook and/or Local 5299 CBA. The Town of Georgetown offers a competitive benefits package.

Annual Salary: $40,000-$60,000 /year

Hourly Rate : $25-$50 /hour
