Job Description

Ashby Police Department – Full Time Police Officers

Position:           Full-Time Patrolman

Pay:                  $ 61,102.81 (Full-time Academy Trained)

Hours:              40 Hours Regular Work Week 5/2 Schedule

 

General:

The Ashby Police Department is seeking a highly motivated, proactive and community-oriented police officer to join our department.  Applicants who have successfully completed a MPTC full-time police academy will receive preference.

The Town of Ashby is located in Northern Central Massachusetts bordering New Hampshire and the MA Communities of Ashburnham, Fitchburg and Townsend.  The Department is currently composed of 8 Full-time officers and serves a population of 3310.   Ashby is currently constructing a new police station which should be occupied late fall of 2022.

Working Conditions:

  • Salary is established through a renewed Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • The Towns Health Insurance is offered at 90/10 percent split between Town and Employee
  • Annual Uniform Allowance of $1325 and Cleaning Allowance of $500 is provided
  • Annual Stipends for specialized duties as provided in the CBA
  • Salary range for patrol officers is $61,102.81 to $68,727.36 based on years of service
  • Shift differential of $2.00 hour for the overnight shift
  • Longevity pay after 20 years of employment

Qualifications & Entrance Requirements:

  • Preferences to Applicants which have successfully completed a MPTC full-time academy
  • Possess a Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
  • Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms
  • Must have or be able to meet certification criteria as established through Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)
  • Possess solid problem-solving ability and have strong verbal and written skills.
  • Upon hire or within one year, required to reside within 15 miles of the Town of Ashby
