Job Description

The East Bridgewater Police Department is seeking qualified candidates to register for its upcoming Police Officer Entrance Exam.

The exam is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at 9 a.m. at the East Bridgewater Junior/Senior High School, 143 Plymouth St. Candidates must register before April 20. The registration fee is $125 and is nonrefundable.

East Bridgewater is a non-Civil Service department. To be eligible for a full-time position, candidates must be able to meet the following basic qualifications:

  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Hold a valid Driver’s License
  • Hold a valid License to Carry a Firearm or be able to obtain a LTC prior to employment
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Pass a psychological exam and thorough background investigation with no felony convictions

The current top-step pay for a patrol officer is $78,792, plus a 7% evening and night differential, and degree incentive (10% Associate’s Degree incentive, 20% Bachelor’s Degree incentive and a 25% Master’s Degree Incentive). With longevity pay, a Bachelor’s degree and working nights top-step base pay currently rises to $105,186 plus sick buyback. The Patrol Officer’s current contract is under negotiation. Patrol Officers work a rotating schedule of 8-hour shifts with 4 days on and 2 days off. Officers receive paid holidays, personal days, vacation days and sick time. There are opportunities for extra detail and overtime work.

Current specialty positions within the department include Detective, School Resource Officer, Field Training Officer, Motorcycle Patrol Officer, Court Prosecutor, Firearms Instructor, and Defensive Tactics Instructor. The EBPD is also a SEMLEC (Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council) member department, which offers SWAT, Search and Rescue, Bicycle, and Motorcycle units.

Passing the examination does not guarantee the opportunity of employment, but is the first step in the hiring and screening process.
